Reverse description At center, a crowned portcullis with chains descending from the lower corners, rendered in fine detail within a beaded inner circle; the portcullis is the heraldic badge of the East India Company. The royal crown above the portcullis is depicted with arches and jeweled band. The surrounding Latin legend is contained between an inner beaded border and an outer beaded rim, reading continuously around the coin. The design is bold and well-centered, typical of the finest Elizabethan hammered silver issues.
