Additional information

Bảo Đại ascended the throne in 1926 at age twelve under French tutelage, and coins struck in his name throughout the colonial period were issued by the Banque de l'Indochine rather than any Vietnamese monetary authority — a detail that reflects exactly how much sovereignty the empire actually exercised. The tiền denominations were minted at Paris and Poissy, never on Vietnamese soil.

Production effectively ceased after the Japanese coup of March 1945 displaced French colonial administration, ending the minting relationship abruptly mid-series.
