Obverse description The Panamanian national coat of arms occupies the central field, rendered in selective gold plating against a mirrored proof background. The shield is surmounted by a harpy eagle with wings displayed, and flanked by nine stars arranged in an arc above, with two further stars at either side of the shield. The shield itself is quartered, depicting the isthmus with two sailing ships, crossed sword and rifle, a cornucopia, and a winged wheel. The legend REPÚBLICA DE PANAMÁ arcs along the upper border, while VEINTE BALBOAS is inscribed along the lower border, both in raised Latin lettering against a dark annular band.
