Bolivia redenominated its currency in 1987, replacing the devastated peso boliviano with the boliviano at a rate of 1,000,000 to one — the peso had been destroyed by hyperinflation that peaked above 20,000% annually in 1985. This coin entered circulation as part of that reset, a direct artifact of one of the worst monetary collapses in Latin American history.
