Reverse description The reverse is printed in purple ink directly onto the cardboard and displays a heraldic shield bearing vertical stripes — the arms of Cabrils — at the centre, enclosed within a circular beaded border. Flanking the shield are symmetrical foliate and scroll ornaments. The circumferential legend 'CARTÓ MONEDA D'OS PROVISIONAS' arcs around the upper field, while 'CABRILS' is inscribed prominently at the base. The date '1937' appears in the lower portion of the inner circle, below the shield. The outer rim is decorated with a repeating chain or interlace motif.

Additional information

Cabrils is a small municipality in the Maresme comarca north of Barcelona, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish towns during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency paper currency when metal coinage disappeared almost entirely from circulation — hoarded, melted down for the war effort, or simply never replaced by a Republican government stretched beyond its administrative capacity. These locally printed cardboard moneda local issues were technically illegal under Spanish monetary law but were tolerated out of necessity.

Cardboard deteriorates. Survivors in any condition are scarce.
