Mamenchisaurus, a sauropod genus first described in 1954 from construction excavations along the Yangtze River, is notable for possessing one of the longest necks relative to body length of any known dinosaur — in some species comprising more than half the total body length. Samoa has issued a consistent run of natural history-themed collector pieces aimed squarely at the novelty end of the numismatic market, and this copper partially gilt issue fits that pattern precisely.
