Obverse description Intaglio portrait vignette at right of Elsbeth Tucher, after the 1499 painting by Albrecht Dürer, rendered in fine engraved lines against an intricate green and ochre guilloche underprint that occupies the central and left portions of the note. The denomination numeral "20" appears within an ornate cartouche at centre-left, flanked by "DM" indicators, beneath the bold letterpress legend "ZWANZIG DEUTSCHE MARK" and the issuing authority "DEUTSCHE BUNDESBANK". Two facsimile signatures and the place and date of issue are printed below the central cartouche, with a secondary oval denomination panel at lower left.
