Additional information

Hutt River Province — the self-declared micronation in Western Australia founded by Leonard Casley in 1970 after a dispute over wheat quotas — issued a stream of gold-plated numismatic pieces throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, aimed squarely at collector markets rather than any pretense of circulation. The F-14 Tomcat had no particular connection to Australia or Hutt River; Casley simply licensed or commissioned military aviation themes that sold well internationally.
