Pietro Annigoni's involvement is the unusual element here. The Florentine painter — best known for his 1955 portrait of Elizabeth II commissioned by the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers — provided the royal likeness that De La Rue adapted for several Commonwealth note series during this period. Fiji was among a handful of Pacific territories that received the design in the mid-1970s as decolonizing nations navigated the pragmatic question of whom to trust with their currency printing.
Three signature combinations appear across the series, reflecting staff turnover at the Reserve Bank rather than any reissue or policy change. Barnes held the Governor position throughout, with the countersigning officer changing twice.
