Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of the young King George I facing right, modeled in high relief with finely engraved hair swept back from the forehead. The circular legend in Greek reads ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ Α' ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ, arranged around the upper and lateral periphery within a beaded border. In the lower exergue, the mint mark 'A' (Paris), the date 1876, and the engraver's signature ΒΑΡΡΕ appear in small incuse lettering. The portrait is executed in the neoclassical French tradition characteristic of Barre's work.
