Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of King George I facing right, rendered in high relief with finely engraved hair and short beard characteristic of the monarch's mature portrait. The circular Greek legend arcs around the periphery, reading ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ Α. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ. In the lower exergual area, the Paris mint mark 'A', the date 1884, and the engraver's signature ΒΑΡΡΕ appear in small incuse lettering. The portrait is framed by a beaded inner border.
