Sopronnyék was one of the larger Austro-Hungarian prisoner-of-war camps operating during the First World War, and its internal scrip was a deliberate economic control mechanism — keeping currency circulating within the wire rather than leaking into the local civilian economy. The Globus printing house in Budapest handled a significant share of this camp money work for the k.u.k. military administration, producing notes that were functional rather than elaborate but consistent enough to deter casual forgery by prisoners.
The 20 Korona denomination is among the higher face values issued at Sopronnyék, suggesting it was intended for canteen credit rather than daily small transactions.
