Pattern coins from the Royal Danish Mint rarely surface in dealer inventories, and this 1983 aluminium bronze trial for what would become the circulating 20 Krone series is no exception. Denmark was reworking its higher-denomination coinage in the early 1980s following sustained inflation that had eroded the practical value of smaller coins, and multiple compositional and design types were tested before the final specification was confirmed.
The designation "type I" implies at least one competing trial existed simultaneously — a detail that makes die attribution and sequence identification the primary collector challenge with this piece.
