| Obverse description | An intaglio portrait of Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda is set within an oval guilloche vignette at right, while the centre carries a scenic lake vignette of three fishermen in a dugout canoe at sunset, framed by palm fronds against a mountainous horizon. The denomination 'TWENTY KWACHA' is rendered in large letterpress text below the bank title, with 'K20' numerals repeated in the four corners against a multicolour guilloche underprint in green, orange, and blue.
