The surrounding annular legend, separated by a dotted border, reads 'TÜRKİYE CUMHURİYETİ' to the left and 'REPUBLIC OF TÜRKİYE' to the right in Latin characters, with a crescent-and-star device at the apex. The denomination '20 Türk Lirası' and the date '2025' appear along the lower rim, flanking the mint mark of the Istanbul Darphane. |

| Reverse description | Facing bust portrait of Ottoman Sultan Mahmud I (r. 1730–1754) rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field, depicted wearing the tall ceremonial Ottoman kavuk headdress adorned with three egret feathers secured by an aigrette. The Sultan is shown with a full beard and robed in an ornate fur-trimmed imperial kaftan. A stylized tulip motif appears to the left of the portrait in the field, referencing the Tulip Era (Lale Devri) associated with his reign. The upper legend reads 'OSMANLI PADİŞAHLARI' in Latin characters, while the lower portion of the rim bears the dates '1696 - 1754' and the inscription 'I. MAHMUD'. |

| Additional information |
Mahmud I ruled the Ottoman Empire from 1730 to 1754, coming to power immediately after the Patrona Halil rebellion — a janissary-led uprising that deposed his predecessor Ahmed III and effectively forced the court to abandon the Westernizing reforms of the Tulip Period. His reign saw sustained conflict with both Russia and Austria, though the 1739 Treaty of Belgrade gave the Ottomans an unusually favorable outcome, recovering Belgrade and halting Russian access to the Black Sea for nearly three more decades.
