The 1922 20 Markkaa belongs to a series issued during Finland's difficult postwar stabilization period, when Suomen Pankki was managing severe inflationary pressure left over from the civil war of 1918 and the disruption of Russian imperial monetary ties. Finland had only been an independent republic since 1917, and the central bank was simultaneously rebuilding institutional credibility and controlling a currency that had lost significant purchasing power.
Pick 51 was printed domestically — unusual for Finnish notes of the period, many of which relied on foreign presses through the 1920s.
