Orania is a private Afrikaner community on the banks of the Orange River in the Northern Cape, and the Ora functions as its local community currency — accepted by member businesses but with no legal tender status anywhere in South Africa. The Sakekamer (Chamber of Commerce) manages issuance, making this a rare case of a functioning community scrip operating openly and without legal challenge within a modern democratic state.
The H series, introduced in 2023, represents a design refresh from earlier runs. Circulation is genuinely limited by the town's small population, typically estimated under two thousand residents.
