Part of Mexico's long-running bimetallic commemorative 20 Peso program, which the Casa de Moneda launched in 1993 and has used to document institutions, anniversaries, and cultural subjects with unusual consistency. The Fuerza Aérea Mexicana was formally established in 1944, though Mexican military aviation dates to the Revolution-era experiments of the 1910s.
The FAM's most documented combat action remains the deployment of Escuadrón 201 to the Pacific Theater in 1945 — the only Mexican combat unit to serve outside the Americas in World War II.
