Oaxaca's state treasury issued its own emergency currency in 1915 because the broader Mexican Revolution had effectively severed the state from functioning national banking infrastructure. These notes circulated under the authority of Governor José Inés Dávila, one of several regional Constitutionalist administrators who printed local scrip when federal Carrancista currency was either unavailable or distrusted by local merchants.
Oaxacan state issues from this period are frequently found with rubber-stamp cancellations applied during the 1916 demonetization sweep — uncancelled examples warrant close examination of the paper's surface.
