Obverse description The current Mexican national arms occupy the center of the obverse, depicting the iconic eagle perched on a cactus devouring a serpent, encircled by a wreath. Surrounding this central device is a ring of ten smaller shields, each representing one of the historical versions of the Mexican coat of arms used throughout the nation's history. The curved legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS runs along the upper periphery of the coin. The overall design is rendered in high-relief proof finish against a mirror field.
