Reverse description The reverse is printed in matching red-brown tones and is dominated by an elaborate guilloché framework of interlocking lace-like underprint patterns filling the entire field. At the centre, a rectangular intaglio vignette presents a bearded male river-god face — a personification of the River Boyne — surrounded by foliage and framed within a ornate cartouche, flanked on either side by the denomination numeral "20" set into the guilloché ground. Celtic knotwork corner ornaments and a continuous decorative border complete the design.
