Cyprus joined the eurozone on 1 January 2008, at which point the pound was superseded at a fixed rate of 0.585274 CYP to one euro — a rate set with unusual precision to minimize rounding losses on conversion. This final series of pounds, of which P#63 is the highest denomination, had a relatively short active life as a result, with redemption of unexchanged notes continuing through the Central Bank for years afterward.
