| Reverse description | The reverse displays the Portuguese royal arms at centre: a shield bearing five escutcheons in cross formation, each charged with five bezants, surrounded by a bordure of castles, all set within an ornate baroque cartouche. The heraldic composition is rendered in high relief and occupies the majority of the coin's field. The circumscribed legend PECUNIA·TOTUM CIRCUMIT·ORBEM ('Money travels around the whole world') runs continuously around the periphery between the beaded inner border and the milled outer edge. |
