Issued as part of Belarus's ongoing Olympic sports commemorative program, this piece was struck ahead of the 2004 Athens Games — the first Summer Olympics in which Belarus competed with a fully established national identity following the Soviet dissolution. Freestyle wrestling has historically been one of the republic's stronger Olympic disciplines, with Belarusian athletes carrying forward a deep Soviet-era wrestling tradition into international competition under their own flag.
