| Reverse description | The central vignette presents a Sambar deer (Rusa unicolor) standing in a meadow with trees and a mountain range in the background, all rendered in intaglio against a pale green underprint. A watermark window occupies the left field, framed by an ornate arched border with floral scroll ornamentation. The Nepal Rastra Bank arms appear at top centre, with the denomination numerals '20' at either side within the guilloche border. |

Nepal Rastra Bank introduced a redesigned 20 Rupee series in the early 2000s, and P#71 falls within the later printings of that run. The 20 Rupee denomination has historically been one of the highest-volume notes in Nepali daily commerce — used heavily in bazaars and rural markets where larger denominations are routinely broken down and where significant wear accumulates quickly. Circulated survivors from this period frequently show ink abrasion along the fold lines, a known issue with the cotton substrate used across the series.
