Obverse description The central vignette presents a large circular intaglio portrait of King Bolesław I Chrobry (the Brave), Poland's first crowned king, rendered in fine line engraving against an intricate guilloche underprint in rose and violet tones. To the left, large numeral "20" and the vertical inscription "DWADZIEŚCIA ZŁOTYCH" appear alongside the Polish state eagle emblem and the issuing authority's name "NARODOWY BANK POLSKI" above the date "WARSZAWA 25 MARCA 1994 r." and two facsimile signatures. A multi-coloured optical device and repeated microtext band appear at the right margin.

Reverse description The reverse is dominated by a large circular vignette of a medieval royal seal of Bolesław I Chrobry rendered in intaglio, showing an armed equestrian figure with inscriptions around the circumference. To the left, a Romanesque rotunda tower serves as an architectural underprint vignette, while a ghost watermark portrait appears to the right. The lower register carries a guilloche band with the denomination "DWADZIEŚCIA ZŁOTYCH" and the monogram "NBP" in bold letterpress, with the legal tender clause printed to the lower right.
