Released to mark the centenary of the formation of the Polish Legions under Józef Piłsudski in August 1914, this is one of a series of polymer commemoratives issued by NBP that circulate at face value but are clearly aimed at collectors. The note was printed by De La Rue on GUARDIAN polymer substrate — relatively early adoption for a Polish commemorative, the NBP having issued its first polymer note only a few years prior.

The transparent window incorporated into the polymer substrate carries optically variable elements that interact with the holographic foil strip in a way that rewards close inspection. Polymer notes of this type rarely show genuine circulation wear; most were purchased directly from NBP branches or the collector distribution channel and went straight into albums.
