Comments

Uzbekistan's coupon issues of 1993 were transitional instruments, bridging the collapse of the Soviet ruble zone and the eventual introduction of the permanent som in November of that year. The quarterly coupon system was a rationing mechanism as much as a monetary one — denominations were tied to specific periods, and coupons from the wrong quarter were legally worthless, which dramatically reduced the volume of notes surviving from any single issue.

The 3rd quarter designation made these notes obsolete within weeks of the som's launch. Most were discarded rather than redeemed.
