Belgium printed its own banknotes through the central bank's in-house facility — unusual among western European issuers of the period, most of whom contracted out to specialist security printers like De La Rue or Giesecke & Devrient. The 200 franc denomination had a relatively short practical lifespan: by January 2002, all Belgian franc notes lost legal tender status upon euro adoption, and this series was among the last issued before the changeover.
Grégoire's intaglio work is worth examining closely. The security thread on this issue is a simple embedded type rather than the windowed variant that became common on contemporaneous European notes.
