The Faroese Løgting has issued its own currency since 1940, when the British occupation cut the islands off from Danish monetary supply following the German invasion of Denmark. What circulated initially were Danish notes overprinted with a Faroese stamp — crude but functional. The series to which this note belongs represents a far more deliberate assertion of local identity, designed by the prominent Faroese painter Zacharias Heinesen, whose work gives the series an unusually fine-arts character rare in small-denomination production.

The "thin security thread" designation distinguishes this issue from a later variant — a meaningful technical distinction for type collectors, as both circulated concurrently and are easily conflated without close examination of the thread width.
