The 1932 Rio Grande do Sul state bonuses — of which this Series D 200 Mil Réis is part — were issued during the Revolução Constitucionalista, when the federal government under Getúlio Vargas moved to suppress the São Paulo-led constitutional uprising. Rio Grande do Sul, Vargas's own political base, faced acute liquidity problems as federal fiscal arrangements broke down and the national treasury prioritized military expenditure. State-issued emergency paper was the practical answer.

Lithografia da Livraria do Globo was Porto Alegre's principal commercial press — a bookshop and publisher turned emergency currency printer. The quality reflects that origin: competent regional lithography, not the intaglio precision of a specialized security printer.
