The legend PAPAL VISIT '95 arcs along the upper periphery, while POPE JOHN PAUL II curves along the lower periphery, both separated by raised dot stops. | Additional information |
Issued to mark John Paul II's fourth visit to the Philippines in January 1995, this coin was struck in anticipation of what became the largest single gathering in recorded history — an outdoor papal Mass in Luneta Park attended by an estimated 4 to 5 million people. The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas authorized the issue in 1994 ahead of the World Youth Day celebrations hosted in Manila that year.
