Thomas De La Rue continued printing Iranian banknotes well into the Islamic Republic period — an arrangement that survived the 1979 revolution largely because no domestic printing facility could match the security paper and intaglio quality required at volume. The five signature combinations across this series' run span over two decades of central bank leadership, making it one of the more heavily administered low-denomination issues of the period.

The shift to a Khomeini watermark on later printings marked a deliberate departure from the geometric watermarks used on earlier varieties — a security update that doubled as political statement.
