| Reverse description | The reverse features a central inset donut-shaped jade disc, within whose aperture a gold-plated effigy of a standing ox faces left in high relief. Surrounding the jade ring, the silver field is populated with eight individually modelled ox scenes in varying poses set against rocky landscapes, arranged in a circular frieze. Gold-plated Chinese characters arc above the jade ring reading 辛丑 (Xin Chou, the cyclical year designation) at the top, and 牛年合家欢乐 (wishing the family happiness in the Year of the Ox) across the centre. The Latin legend THE YEAR OF THE OX curves along the lower portion of the jade ring, with the date 2021 inscribed in the lower field. |

Laos has issued commemorative lunar series coins largely for the export collector market since the 1990s, with virtually no domestic circulation intended. The Bank of the Lao PDR functions here essentially as a licensing arrangement — the coins are produced by external mints and distributed through European and Asian wholesale dealers rather than through any Lao banking infrastructure.
The 2021 issue date places this well after the actual Year of the Ox cycle it commemorates, a common practice in the modern bullion commemorative trade that can generate confusion in catalog dating.
