The 2000 Kč note was the highest denomination in Czech circulation when introduced, issued partly in response to post-1993 inflation eroding the practical value of smaller notes following the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia. Státní Tiskárna Cenin has handled Czech security printing since the communist period, and the 1996 series marks one of the first full redesigns entirely under sovereign Czech authority rather than shared Czechoslovak institutions.
Kulhánek and Ondráček worked together across several denominations in this series. Ondráček's engraving work is considered among the more technically accomplished in modern Czech intaglio production.
