Taiwan's gold bullion series has been issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of China since the 1980s, functioning partly as a store-of-value instrument for domestic investors wary of the political uncertainties that have historically shadowed cross-strait relations. The 31.1g weight — one troy ounce — places this squarely in the international bullion tier, intended to track spot gold rather than circulate.
The ROC maintains its own minting infrastructure largely independent of mainland institutions, a point the Central Bank has never been subtle about.
