Chile converted its 2000 Peso denomination to polymer in 2004, part of a broader push by the Banco Central to reduce counterfeiting of mid-range circulation notes — a persistent problem with the paper series that preceded it. Note Printing Australia has held the contract continuously, making this one of the longer-running Southern Hemisphere polymer printing relationships outside Australia's own domestic issues.
The transparent window incorporated into this denomination was among the earlier implementations of that feature in Chilean currency, predating several European adoptions of comparable technology.
