| Obverse description | Central field features the Dominican Republic coat of arms, a quartered shield displaying alternating horizontal lines and a central cross above an open Bible, rendered in high relief with fine engraving detail. The shield is presented without supporters or crest, in a straightforward heraldic style typical of late 19th-century essai coinage. The curved legend REPUBLICA DOMINICANA arcs around the upper periphery in bold serif capitals. The date 1887 appears in the lower field, flanked on each side by a raised dot.
