Obverse description The Principality of Sealand coat of arms occupies the central field, featuring a shield flanked by two heraldic sea-lion supporters, each wearing a crown, with a helmet and mantling above and a crest composed of an armored fist issuing from a coronet. A scroll beneath the shield bears the motto E MARE LIBERTAS. The date 1994 appears in the lower field, flanked by two scallop shell devices. The circular legend PRINCIPALITY OF SEALAND arcs across the upper portion of the field, while SEALAND 2 1/2 DOLLARS runs along the lower left and right periphery.

Additional information

Sealand — the former Royal Navy sea fort HM Fort Roughs, seized by Paddy Roy Bates in 1967 — has issued coins since the 1970s primarily as novelty revenue items rather than circulating currency. This oversized silver-plated piece, well beyond the mass of any practical coinage, falls squarely in that category: a souvenir with a denomination that exists nowhere in any functioning monetary system.
