| Obverse description | At right, a fine intaglio portrait of Queen Juliana of the Netherlands in three-quarter view is set against a multicolour guilloche underprint in blue and ochre tones. The inscription NEDERLANDS NIEUW-GUINEA appears at upper left alongside a bird-of-paradise vignette, with the denomination numeral 2½ at both upper corners. The lower margin carries the Dutch legend TWEE EN EEN HALVE GULDEN, the legal tender clause WETTIG BETAALMIDDEL, the date 8 DECEMBER 1954, and the manuscript signature of the Minister of Overseas Territories. |
