Obverse description A recumbent humped bull (Nandi) depicted in left profile, rendered in the characteristic early medieval Indian style, with a garland or necklace adorning the neck. A Brahmi legend appears in the field above the bull, attributing the issue to the ruler Bhumicandra. The design occupies a broad, irregularly shaped flan typical of hammered silver coinage of the Chandra dynasty.

Additional information

The Chandra dynasty ruled Bengal and parts of neighboring regions during a period when indigenous silver coinage in the subcontinent was sparse and highly regionalized. The ratti — a traditional weight unit derived from the seed of the Abrus precatorius plant — anchored South Asian weight standards for centuries before metrological standardization under later Mughal administration.
