The Bermuda Monetary Authority issued a series of parish-themed 25-cent pieces beginning in 1983, each dedicated to one of the island's nine parishes. The Devonshire Parish reverse was part of that circulation series, not a commemorative — these coins were intended for everyday use, which makes uncirculated survivors harder to find than their mintage figures might suggest.
Devonshire is one of Bermuda's oldest parishes, established under the 1616 land survey organized by the Bermuda Company.
