DesPac — Destroyer Pacific — was the informal umbrella under which destroyer force personnel in the Pacific operated during the final years of the war. Officers' clubs at forward island bases frequently issued their own scrip to manage alcohol and canteen sales without drawing on military payment certificates, which were controlled currency. Koruniat Island, a small base in the Admiralties group, was one of dozens of such outposts that printed their own club tokens and paper scrip during 1944–45, almost none of which were documented by central command.
Survival rate is extremely low — this scrip had no value beyond the bar tab, and most was discarded or destroyed when the club closed as the fleet moved north.
