| Obverse description | Central design features a stylised depiction of the historic Qal'at al-Kuwait (Kuwait Fort) rendered in relief, with a flagpole bearing the Kuwaiti flag rising from its battlements. Superimposed below the fort is the large numeral '40' in bold relief, commemorating the fortieth anniversary of Kuwaiti independence.
