Additional information

Andorra had no formal coinage of its own for most of its history, operating instead on a patchwork of French and Spanish currencies in daily commerce. This 1964 issue is among the earliest gold pieces struck under Andorran authority, produced largely for the collector market rather than circulation. The Napoleon I theme reflects the co-princeship structure under which Andorra operates — the French head of state holds one of the two co-prince titles, a line of succession that runs unbroken in theory from the bishops of Urgell and the counts of Foix through the French crown.

The X# prefix in the Krause reference places this outside the standard circulation series entirely.
