Additional information

The HMAV Bounty mutiny of 1789 remains Pitcairn's entire reason for existence as an inhabited territory — Fletcher Christian and eight other mutineers settled the island precisely because its remoteness made discovery unlikely. Pitcairn has no independent mint authority and issues coins purely as a revenue instrument, contracting production to overseas facilities since the island's population has never exceeded a few dozen people.

KM#49 is part of a broader gold bullion program Pitcairn launched in the 2000s capitalizing on the Bounty name recognition. The .9999 fineness places it among the purest gold coin specifications commercially produced at the time of issue.
