| Additional information |
Egypt's Central Bank issued this piece to mark the ongoing restoration and display of Khufu's solar boat — the 4,600-year-old cedar vessel reassembled from 1,224 separate planks and housed since 1982 in a purpose-built museum at the foot of the Great Pyramid. A second, still-dismantled boat was excavated in 1987 and transferred to the Grand Egyptian Museum project, prompting renewed international attention to the site.
The 22-karat (.875) fineness places this squarely in Egypt's traditional gold coinage standard, unchanged across decades of commemorative issues from the Central Bank.
