(Translation: The Bank of Java pays to the bearer twenty-five gulden. Batavia, 1 August 1864. Secretary, President.)
Reverse description The reverse is printed in blue and red, centred on a large cruciform guilloche composition of five interlocking oval medallions, the central oval bearing the inscription "JAVASCHE BANK" and the numeral 25 appearing in the four surrounding ovals. Four red-printed text panels are placed in the corners, each containing anti-counterfeiting penalty notices in a different language: Dutch (upper left), Javanese script (lower left), Arabic (upper right), and Chinese characters (lower right).

Met den dood, te pronkstelling, opsluiting in een tuchthuis en Verbanning wordt naar omstandigheden gestraft het namaken of Veralschen en het opzettelijk uitgeven van nagemaakte of Vervalschte billetten der Bank.
