De Javasche Bank had functioned as the Dutch colonial central bank in the Dutch East Indies since 1828, but by 1950 the political ground had shifted entirely — Indonesian independence had been declared in 1945, and the bank was operating in a territory no longer under Dutch authority. This note was printed in Haarlem for a bank that would be nationalized by the Indonesian government just one year later, in 1951, becoming Bank Indonesia.

The timing makes P#8 one of the final issues under the Javasche Bank name, and surviving examples in any condition are relatively scarce given the short window of legitimate circulation before the institutional changeover.
