Sąjūdis — the Reform Movement that emerged in 1988 and drove Lithuania toward the declaration of independence in March 1990 — was among the most consequential political mobilizations in late Soviet history. This commemorative marks the movement's 25th anniversary. Nordic gold, the copper-aluminum-zinc-tin alloy used widely for commemoratives across Scandinavia and the Baltics, was chosen here almost certainly for its resemblance to gold without the cost burden of a low-mintage precious metal issue.
